"EXPERIENCES AND CREATIONS: VAGGELIS ANETOPOULOS"
The Greek Nationality Room of the Nationality Rooms Program at the University of Pittsburgh together with the European Art Center of Greece (EUARCE) will present the life and experiences of
Vaggelis Anetopoulos, who welcomed many refugees who escaped the Genocide.
Located in Volos, the Anetopoulos craftshop employeed many of the refugees, some who became renowned artisans in their later years. Volos welcomed more than 13,000 refugees, serving as the largest point of arrival and the eventual rise of "New Ionia", whose refugees inspired and created a significant corpus
of modern Greek industrial, cultural and artistic innovations.
Vaggelis Anetopoulos was a living witness of that remarkable and historic time of Volos,
the place of the refugee potters.
